Transmission of the Kagyu Ngagdzod

In fulfilment of the aspirations long held by Lama Ole and Hannah Nydahl, and under the guidance of His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, H.E. Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche has graciously accepted the request to bestow the rare and precious Kagyu Ngagdzod empowerments at Karma Guen.
This month-long transmission, embodying the blessings of the unbroken Kagyu lineage, offers practitioners an unparalleled opportunity to receive and uphold these profound teachings.
The transmission
What is the Kagyu Ngagdzod?
One of the Five Treasuries compiled by Jamgon Kongtrul Lodrö Thaye (1813–1899), known as Jamgon Kongtrul the Great, it traces its origins to the Vajrayana teachings brought from India to Tibet by Marpa the Translator. Preserved through the unbroken Kagyu lineage, it unites sutra and tantra, harmonises view and practice, and presents the complete stages of the path to enlightenment.
A treasury gathered across Tibet
In the 19th century, foreseeing that many rare transmissions were about to be lost, Jamgon Kongtrul Lodrö Thaye travelled across Tibet to gather empowerments, instructions and commentaries from authentic masters. His efforts culminated in the Five Treasuries, the Kagyu Ngagdzod standing among them as a complete repository of tantric wisdom.
What it contains
Within it are preserved the practices of Mahamudra, the Six Yogas of Naropa, Chakrasamvara, Hevajra, Guhyasamaja, Vajrayogini and countless other transmissions — each a gateway to realisation. The Kagyu Ngagdzod is not merely a collection of texts, but a living lineage of empowerment and practice.
Why it matters today
Successive incarnations of Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche have upheld this task, preserving, practising and transmitting the Five Treasuries. To receive these empowerments is to connect directly with the blessings of Marpa and the lineage masters, and to establish the conditions for entering Marpa's tantric path for the benefit of all beings.
